Sustainability

At Vekla, we believe in incorporating sustainability without diminishing the quality nor the beauty of the product.

Local production. The entire production for Vekla clothing takes place in Europe. We have personally visited all of our main production partners and many of our suppliers, and can vouch for their social responsibility and willingness to take environmental action. In fact, developing a more sustainable product was the main reason for the factory that produces our sneakers to work with us, as they would otherwise not have accepted to work with a small business like ours.

Better materials. When you develop a product, it needs to be made sustainably. What this means is that you need to think about what material to use, but also how it will age and how long it will last. We choose to work with those materials that will guarantee a more sustainable product, without diminishing the quality nor the beauty of the product. One prime example of this is the use of chrome free and metal free leather, a cutting edge technique in the world of tanning that requires less water, a lower use of chemicals and produces less CO2.

Organic cotton. All Vekla shoe bags, and a large part of our premium sneaker laces, are made from 100% organic cotton. organic cotton is grown without the use of pesticides harmful to humans or the environment, requires less water and is more forgiving to the soil. Our aim is to use 100% organic cotton for all laces when order volume allows it.

Adding durability. When we talk about a durable sneaker, we mean years and years of comfort and joy in wearing your sneakers, before it's time to retire them. The genuine, full rubber outsole produced by Margom, hidden eyelet reinforcements and leather board heel counter are just some of the elements that contribute to our idea of durability by design.

Eco-friendly presentation. We use 100% recycled cardboard for all our packaging, and FSC certified paper for the purchase note and thank you card included with every order. We encourage our customers to re-use the cardboard box, and welcome any kind of suggestion in this regard. Our cleaning solution for sneakers is 100% natural and bio-degradable, as well as our care brush that is made from solid wood and pure hog hair bristles.
